*NSYNC
Originating in Orlando, Florida, this group of five began their careers and quickly rose to fame by late 1997. Their first American debut, "I Want You Back" hit the Top 100 Billboard' at number 13 on January 20th of 1998. Quickly these boys flourished into one of the biggest boybands of the era. With hit singles like "Bye Bye Bye", and "Tearin' up my Heart" they grasped the attention of crazed teenaged girls and started filling up and selling out stadium tours. June 13th, 1998 marks their first show in Anaheim, California where they performed with the spice girls. There is an ongoing rivalry between *NSYNC and Backstreet Boys, which band do you think is better?

Backstreet Boys
The Backstreet Boys became a top-selling group in 1993. Also originating in Orlando, Florida, this group was brought together by entrepreneur Lou Pearlman in '92. Their debut American single "We've got it Goin' on" in 1995 which hit 69 on the American Billboard Top 100. ( It hit #1 in many European countries.) Quickly following that, they released their next hit single " I'll Never Break Your Heart" just 3 months later. This is one of the only boybands that has lasted as long as it has. The Backstreet Boys are still performing now and continue to try to create new music. Their latest single, "Chances" has come with an announcement of their new album named "DNA" which is set to be released on January 25th, 2019.

Boy bands during the '90s were something that was thought to open up how men could express their feelings. In general, most girls would listen to the boy bands during these generations but just the fact that they would be out singing about love and heartbreak was something of a comfort to men. Starkey of Medium.com says that the Backstreet Boys even made it "acceptable" for men to listen to boy bands too. Although the Backstreet Boys and *NSYNC were two of the biggest boy bands of the '90s, there were a few more bands that were known. Boyz II Men, New Kids on the Block, and 98 Degrees also made a large name for themselves.
